“The Y has always been a big part of our life, but it has meant the world to my son and our family during these difficult times of COVID-19. Emil’s summer camp experience was filled with swim fun at the Southtowns Y when every pool was closed. Being greeted by Adam Milton of the Lancaster Y was our favorite part of the day. Emil made many friends there and met some of the best role models I can think of! COVID made it hard to have play dates, but my husband and I knew the Y handled social distancing and playing together with a perfect mix of safety, normalcy, and fun.
The Y was a godsend for families with essential workers during a time when insecurity and unpredictability made life a true test and challenge. Coming to the Y felt good for our family because of the grateful and warm welcome we received every day. Our family is so impressed and thankful for this reliable and committed institution.
But most importantly, our son felt the benefits of YMCA programs. Emil is very social and needs his peers, and the Y helped him make new friends in a great community, which kept him from feeling lonely and bored during the pandemic.
Every time I dropped my son off at the Y, I was overcome with a feeling of happiness, relief, and a smile. This peace of mind really helped me as a mom to cope with everything that’s happened this year.
